Evelyn Aguilar Shimazaki

VP- Tsuchiura, Japan; Palo, Leyte Committee Member
Evelyn Shimazaki's engagement with Neighbors Abroad began in October 2022 when she joined a delegation to Palo, Leyte, the Philippines. As she continues to support Palo’s educational initiatives, Evelyn also serves as the VP of Sister City Tsuchiura, Japan.As a Vice President with Neighbors Abroad, she manages the Sister City relationship and middle school student exchange program between Palo Alto and Tsuchiura, Japan. ​

Evelyn was born in Manila, Philippines and raised in Los Angeles. She received her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law. After graduation, she practiced law in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Silicon Valley for 30+ years.

Evelyn lived in Tokyo for seven years. After studying Japanese, she worked in the legal department of a Japanese electronics manufacturer. She and her husband, Naoki, raised their two children in Tokyo and were active in the international school community.

After her stint in Tokyo, Evelyn and her family moved to Palo Alto. Her children attended Walter Hays Elementary School and Jordan Middle School. Evelyn fondly remembers taking her children to the “Bayanihan” exhibit at the Palo Alto Junior Museum which was developed by Neighbors Abroad Board Member, Ruth Carlson.

Evelyn has worked for several Silicon Valley technology companies, most notably Apple, Tesla, and Facebook, as an in-house attorney specializing in commercial law and technology transactions. Evelyn is a Founding Board Member of UCLA Law Women LEAD and an Advisory Board Member of UCLA Law’s Lowell Millkin Institute for Business Law and Policy. She speaks Tagalog, Spanish, and Japanese.
